Currently being involved as an organisation in many projects, both locally in different parts of Romania and internationally in countries like United Kingdom and France, which have been affected by coronavirus outbreaks we are for applying simple project management and risk management principles on how we should act as an industry in response to COVID 19 virus.
Risk management should be applied as defined – a process that allows individual risk events and overall risk to be understood and managed proactively, optimising success by minimising threats and maximising opportunities.
Practical advice on preventing and limiting Coronavirus and its effects on Construction Projects
Personal hygiene and collective preventive and protective measures need to be in place.
It is important to acknowledge that a sense of panic in affected areas is nearly as debilitating as the health effects themselves as a consequence we need as an industry to make people feel and be safe.
Plan our projects in accordance with current circumstances:
- Working from home as possible.
- Avoiding as much as possible face to face meetings.
- Good hygiene to rigorously be instated, including frequent hand-washing.
- Clearly displaying hygiene instruction and prevention methods and rules in visible places in the construction site and workplace.
- Limiting as much as possible group interaction.
- Limiting presence on construction sites only to required personnel.
- Supplying our construction sites with sanitising hand gel, liquid soap and disposable towels.
- Cleaning and disinfection of common site areas (containers, toilets, access points, etc.).
- Budgeting for and implementing necessary measures on projects.
- Acknowledging and planning for labour and material shortages / delay in deliveries.
The positive thing is that every day may bring more information, and the more information we have the better we can predict what to do.
We have the opportunity to improve how we set-up our construction sites and be united as branch and industry.
